aizawa taki
Aizawa Taki
The kanji for his name is
"Dragon Waterfall"

Maki Murakami.... is a rather... inconsistant writer. When I say that, I'm being kind. She did not have plan for Gravitation when she started it, had no idea how to finish it, or what was going to happen. In much the same way a fanfic writer does not know what's going to happen in the next chapter, Murakami did not know what was going to happen in Gravitation. This is my pet peeve about Gravi... she started on the Taki-Shuichi/ASK v Bad Luck gig... instigated this awfulness, and then dropped it like a can of worms when she realized that it would weigh down the story too much. Her exact reasoning was, that she felt that the rape would ruin the story, and make whole thing too angst-laden, and not the cute fluffy beast from hell we know and love today. So, she created Taki with seriousness in mind, and then ditched him with poor writing when she changed her breezy little brain, later in the series. Taki was then replaced by a mecha panda. Oh yes, I am a bitter fangirl, indeed. Love-hate, hate-love, like a peanutbutter pickle sandwich. Confusing, isn't it?

Ma-kun
The hiragana for Ma-kun.
He is only ever called 'Ma-kun'.

Taki has proved, to me at least, that Pepsi truely is evil.

In Remix 10, Taki is basically used as a sex toy to aide in the flailing sex life of the "established" (in the remix universe, of course -- you know, the same one that makes Eiri a habitual uke) couple Ma-kun/Ken-chan. No, I'm serious. Ma-kun says 'ai shiteru' not once, but twice in this Remix, once to Ken-chan, and once to Taki. They pierce his penis in the final scene with a heated needle, because Ma-kun saw it on the internet and thought it looked fun. Look for a scanlation in the future. This Remix is so horrible, I feel compelled to scanlate (with help from Mehg) it for posterity.

Remix 9 is my favorite, due to excessive use of schoolboy uniforms. He's 17 years old in the beginning of the doujin.

This year, Taki is 31 years old. He's the youngest member of ASK. Ma-kun and Ken-chan are about 2 years older than he is.

Poor ignored little whipping-boys:
Ma-kun the Mack-daddy Big News!
and Ken-chan, "the other guy in shades". Don't use this pic for your site, please, took me ages to make it.

Ma-kun, the blond, is a mack-daddy, and knows how to get laid even while sporting broken ribs. Ken-chan is just quiet, and looks like he loves the 80s. They both look like hardcore fans of Miami Vice.

Gravitation opens up with ASK.

ASK is really really popular, before NG ditches them. They have hardcore fangirls, an album, and in the manga Hiro is actually worried about opening for them. And yet, unlike some other animes, we don't get to hear them sing a single god damn song.

Ma-kun's the only guy to call him "Tachi" in the whole anime.

In the manga, you can see Hiro and Shuuichi gently flip out when they hear ASK speak to each other for the first time, "Ma-kun? Ken-chan? Tachi???", this is because all those names are excessively girly nicknames for a Japanese man to have.

ken-chan hiragana
Ken-chan.
In Japan, when you hook -chan up to a man's name, you're basically saying he's a girl, or is girly. Sometimes a girlfriend, or S.O. can get away with hooking -chan up to a man's name, but it's pretty infrequent, and it's usually in jest. Thanks to Remix 10, we think Ken's last name is 'Sawaka'.

Shuuichi calls Taki "tareme" in the show, which means "droopy eyes" or "slanty eyes".

Doesn't Ma-kun look like Allen Schzar?

The most common Taki YAOI pairing is (eehn) Taki/Shuuichi.

Aizawa Taki is the shortest guy in ASK at 5'8" (which is the same height as Touma), Ma-kun's the second tallest at 5'9.5", and Ken-chan is the tallest at 5'10".

He's actually very tall for a Japanese man.

I spent way too much time on this damn site.
